Biography
Dr. Leyla B. Djansugurova is a Full Professor of Genetics, PhD. Current position - General Director of the Institute of General Genetics and Cytology (Almaty, Republic of Kazakhstan). She specialized in cytogenetics, molecular genetics, and cell biology. Training and research experience: Department of genetics, Moscow State University named M.Y. Lomonosov; Institute of molecular genetics RAS, Moscow, Russia; Institute of Gene Biology RAS, Moscow, Russia; Department of genetics, Leicester University, Leicester, Great Britain.
Research Interest
Dr. Leyla B. Djansugurova’s research interests: Drosophila genetics, Human genetics, genetic instability, apoptosis; individual susceptibility and resistance to cancer and hazard environmental influence; cancer genetics, and genetics of ageing. She is an independent expert in the field of DNA fingerprinting. Leyla Djansugurova was an executor of 2 international grants, and 11 Kazakhstan research projects were done under her leadership. In total she has 236 papers, 5 workbooks, 2 monographs, 3 patents. There are 7 PhD research works were done under her supervising, currently 3 PhD students are being prepared. Twice she has been awarded by governmental awards for her contribution to science. Her activities in cancer research were related to oncovirus-induced mutagenesis, elucidation the role of apoptotic key genes in development of cervical and esophageal cancers, the lectin based approach to early detection of cancer cells, the molecular epidemiology of sporadic and inherited forms of cervical, esophageal and colorectal cancers.
